Insulae (Latin: insulae) were a type of housing that existed in Ancient Rome. They are similar to modern buildings, as they were also arranged in storeys. They were referred to in terms of urban planning classification, with an insulae being the equivalent of a block. Strabo (Greek historian, geographer and philosopher) notes that insulae, like domus, had running water and basic sanitation.

ÍNSULA: conjunto de casas/quarteirão
Ínsulas (em latim: insulae) eram um tipo de habitação existente na Antiga Roma. São parecidas com os prédios atuais, pois a sua disposição era também em andares. Eram referidas quanto a uma classificação de planejamento urbano, sendo uma insulae o equivalente a um bloco (quarteirão).
