This  stamp was made to commemorate the 3rd International Children's Assembly "Banner of Peace" (Знаме на мира), which took place in Sofia, Bulgaria, in 1985. The "Banner of Peace" was an international movement and festival of children's art initiated in 1979 by Lyudmila Zhivkova, the Bulgarian Chair of the Committee for Art and Culture. It operated under the motto "Unity, Creativity, Beauty".

Purpose of the Movement:

  • International Children's Diplomacy: It gathered children from all over the world to foster intercultural cooperation and mutual understanding.

  • Encouraging Youth Creativity: The events served as a global festival celebrating children's talents in painting, literature, and music.

  • Promoting World Peace: Backed by international organizations like UNESCO and UNICEF, the movement aimed to use "soft power" during the Cold War to establish diplomatic goodwill among youth across different nations.

  • The stamp features an original child's drawing ("Girl among flowers") submitted for the festival, alongside the formal globe-and-birds emblem of the assembly on the right.
